Following completion of the Rose Medical Center (RMC) Master Plan, Matrix’s Design Studios West undertook site and landscape architectural design services for the Melvin and Elaine Wolf Surgery and Medical Office Building on the RMC campus. As landscape architecture subconsultants, Design Studios West addressed site planning issues that included adding a four-story building to the Hale Parkway district, improving visitor and service circulation, providing valet parking facilities, and relocating a helipad. Visual integration of the new facility was achieved through the preservation of mature trees and depression of the valet parking area. Existing campus service areas were also visually buffered using earthen berms, plantings, trelliswork, and vines that created a new entry plaza for the building out of the former rear service entry to the campus.
Outdoor pedestrian seating alcoves set within small gardens were designed to be equally attractive when viewed from outdoors or through the glass of adjacent indoor classrooms and building corridors. Design Studios West was responsible for site and landscape design, construction document preparation and construction administration for those improvements.
