Douglas Avenue Roadway & Drainage Design
Douglas Avenue links Platte Lane and Forest View Road, enhancing connectivity between the communities of Monument and Palmer Lake in central Colorado. However, the simple gravel road was facing growing demand and required significant modifications to better meet the mobility needs of the area. Matrix was retained by the Town of Palmer Lake to develop conceptual designs of Douglas Avenue as a paved road with concrete-lined drainage ditches and capable of supporting increased demand during hot summers and snow-packed months. Our Team focused on minimizing erosion and simplifying future maintenance needs and developed several alternatives to ensure affordability for the small community. Matrix also worked closely with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for clearances, including for environmental protection and rights-of-way. The Town of Palmer Lake was awarded a federal grant to complete the project, administered by CDOT.
