Matrix Design Group performed the final design for Best Road under the Douglas County’s on-call services contract. The existing roadway surface is composed of a treated gravel surface with one lane in each direction, a rolling profile, open roadside ditches on either side and six cross culverts of corrugated metal ranging from 15” to 48” in diameter passing the overland drainage from south to north. The ROW is a prescriptive 60- foot wide swath.

The roadway improvements consist of paving one-mile from Andrews Road to Furrow Road, East of I-25. The roadway design incorporated a double 10’ x 6’ box culvert requiring detours to phase the construction. Significant grading to establish the interim detour and the final roadway profile required careful planning to maintain traffic throughout the construction process.
